Chinese Poem Expressing Feelings Calligraphy
Poetry is a form of Chinese literature that is rhythmical and sentimental. It dates from ancient China and develops through people's everyday labor, their songs and their affections. Usually, Chinese poetry is classified into four categories: Shi (poem, 诗), Ci (lyric poetry, originating in the Tang Dynasty and fully developed in the Song Dynasty, 词), Ge (songs, 歌), and Fu (descriptive prose interspersed with verse, 赋). Generally considered that Shi is more suited to express thought, and Ci is appropriate for expressing emotion. Poets need to master mature artistry so that they can express their inner world and social life by poetry based on strict rules and forms of classical poetic composition that consist of the highly concentrated words, profuse emotion and imageries.
Chinese poetry, with its long history, began with The Books of Songs (Shih Ching, 诗经), Chu Ci (literally, poetry of the Chu Kingdom of the Warring States Period, 楚辞) and Yuefu Folk Songs (乐府). The golden age of Chinse poetry, like so many other Chinese art forms, came in the Tang Dynasty. More than 50,000 poems written by 2,200 poets during these 300 years are still known today. Song Dynasty is another pinnacle of Chinese poetry for Ci came into full flower and grew into the most distinguished poetic form. After the Song Dynasty, both Shi and Ci continued to be composed until the end of the Qing Dynasty, and to a lesser extent to this day. However, for a number of reasons, these words have always been less regarded than those of the Tang Dynasty in particular.
